Modern Elegance in Houston

Every now and then, a project comes along that reminds me why I adore this work so much.

This Houston home wasn’t just about creating beautiful rooms. It was about crafting a feeling. The homeowners wanted spaces that felt comfortable, cohesive, and rich with personality, a reflection of their lifestyle and love for art.

My goal was to give them a home that looked refined yet lived-in. A place that welcomed you the second you stepped inside.

Setting the Vision

From the start, I knew this home needed balance: warmth and sophistication, texture and polish. The architecture already had wonderful bones: arched openings, rich hardwood floors, and natural light spilling through the windows.

I wanted to enhance that with layers of neutral tones, contemporary forms, and a few bold statements that would give the home its signature personality.

The Heart of the Home:
Kitchen and Dining

The kitchen and breakfast nook were designed to invite connection. Creamy cabinetry, a soft granite countertop, and sleek hardware gave the kitchen a crisp but approachable look.

I added subtle details like an open cookbook and a vase of utensils to make it feel lived-in: a space ready for Sunday morning pancakes or late-night chats over coffee.

In the adjoining dining area, a round wooden table anchors the space, surrounded by upholstered chairs that encourage long conversations.

The sculptural centerpiece and tiered chandelier bring an artful edge, catching light in a way that makes every meal feel special. The archway between rooms keeps the layout flowing, drawing the eye into the living area beyond.

A Living Room Made for Comfort and Conversation

The living room became a showcase of texture and tone. Deep blue swivel chairs and a custom rug set the stage, while the black fireplace and bold artwork framed the space with confidence.

I layered in glass, metal, and wood for contrast - a glass coffee table for airiness, a wooden side cabinet for warmth, and silver accents for sparkle. Each detail adds personality without overwhelming the calm foundation of the room.

What I love most about this design is how effortlessly the spaces speak to one another. The dining area flows into the living room, and every view feels intentional; a dance between comfort and elegance.

The Finishing Touches

Lighting played a major role in this transformation. From the crystal chandelier that cascades over the dining table to the contemporary pendant in the breakfast nook, every fixture was chosen to enhance mood and movement throughout the home.

Thoughtful accessories - a few well-placed plants, sculptural art, and pops of cobalt and charcoal - complete the look.

The Duchess Difference

When the project wrapped, the homeowners walked in and simply said:

“It feels like us.”

That, to me, is the highest compliment.

At Designs by Duchess, that’s what we aim for—creating homes that feel personal, not just polished.
